Tim Seres, artist - Biography
Tim Seres is an artist based in Sydney. His studio is at the Georges Heights’ artists’ precinct in Mosman, New South Wales.
Landscape painting is Tim’s preferred medium. His distinctive canvasses feature vivid colours and abstract imagery. Inspired by an Italian, Basque and Australian heritage, Tim’s work explores his ancestry through paintings. Recent trips to western and eastern Europe as well as Japan and Hong Kong have provided further influences for his art practice.
Tim trained at Seaforth College of TAFE and East Sydney Technical College (now the National Art School) in the 1980s. For several years, he interpreted the Australian landscape through abstract expressionism in multi-media, including oils and acrylic.
In the late ‘80s his work was included in numerous group shows in Sydney and in 1987 he won the NSW Art Galleries ‘Painters in the Park’ en plein air competition. In 1988, Tim located to Melbourne where he continued painting. His work was exhibited in three exhibitions in the United States between 1988 and 1990.
After a break of several years to raise his family and work as a hotel and restaurant manager, Tim has returned to pursue his career in visual arts.
His new body of work includes canvasses ranging in size from miniature to large multi-paneled paintings. Most of the subjects are derived from his observations of life and scenery of central and northern Italy, driven by the richness of the local culture and paying homage to his grandparents’ homeland. Some reflect his Sydney environment. Tim’s work expresses his personal journey of the search for ‘home’.
