‘Trevignano Dusk I’ is my interpretation of the view from a little pier on the edge of Lake Bracciano where my friends and I would spend lazy afternoons enjoying aperitvos in the late afternoon light. The landmark Roman ruin rises above the bell tower of the medieval town of Trevignano, now so popular with modern Romans and visitors.

The simplistic, almost childlike fantastical image that was represented in 'TrevignanoDusk I', has been stripped back to reveal a more refined, even simplistic composition in the manner of a Matisse paper cut-out. The removal of detail not only abstracts the composition but also lends credence to my work on depth from colour, contrast and form.

This painting of the small fishing village of Marta on Lake Bolsena is a result of being stuck on a larger piece that I was working on. Initially this was an 'instant composition' that I sketched on my 2012 trip to Europe. Utilizing the golden mean and triangular compositional rules along with multiple perspective points and excessive detail (for me). The warmer reds of the foreground lead to the cooler pinks and hues of the fisherman's terraces.
