This major piece was the culmination of many months of planning and execution. The painting itself was completed in my mind well before the brush hit the canvas. The inspiration for the composition came from seeing two boys playing by a lake near Orange on Lake Burrandong in Central New South Wales. From those preliminary sketches I planned for this to be in keeping with my other completed works of this series, that is, large areas of contrasting colours layered to create the finished product. However the underlying psycho-historical references that the composition invoked in me demanded I take this further. This painting represents the very soul of a relationship with one of my brothers. The contrasting shapes, techniques & colours all add and ultimately balance the composition, just as in my relationship.
